My vinger bewe oor die “buy now” skakel, my hart klop al hoe vinniger…
Opgewondenheid borrel in my, want my pakkie is besig om voorberei te word.
Aanlyn-inkopies – my grootste verslawing!
Gelukkig is daar aanlynwinkels!
2. Moenie net koop omdat koop, koop is nie
“Gratis aflewering vir alle aankope bo R xxx” is my gunsteling verskoning om net nóg items in my mandjie te laai. Moenie in dieselfde gat trap nie!
3. Wees op die uitkyk vir verskuilde bykostes
Aflewering is nie altyd gratis nie.
4. Merk promosie eposse as Spam

Be money wise while online shopping
My finger is hovering over the “buy now” button. My heart is beating fiercely. I click on the button and my screen immediately changes to the confirmation page.
Hooray! My order is being prepared.
Online shopping – my addiction.
Day to day tasks changed immensely in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic. Shopping became a chore. Carrying hand sanitizer with you everywhere, remembering your mask and people wandering around in shops like zombies from underneath their facemasks, is not my idea of fun. But luckily there is online shopping!
During the hard lockdown earlier this year, I passed time by spending almost all my waking hours browsing online shops. Flipping through page after page of clothes, shoes and accessories, are one of my favourite types of selfcare. Picturing outfits in my head and reminiscing about where I’ll where it to, are like soul food to me (yes, I am that level of girly-girl!).
Like mentioned before, online shopping is my addiction and needless to say, a very expensive addiction to satisfy…I therefore thought to share some of my tips and tricks for shopping online without breaking the bank.
1. Stick to your price range
Online shops have this nifty tool where you can filter items according to your price range. This prevents you from chocking on the price of an absolutely to die for piece and buying it.
2. Don’t buy for the sake of buying
“Free delivery for purchases over R xxx” is my favourite excuse for adding items to my cart. Do not make the same mistake! This is the quickest way to fill up your cart with unnecessary items that will end up costing you fortune.
3. Be on the lookout for hidden costs
Delivery is seldom free. Make sure you budget in delivery costs to an item you want to buy and deciding if it is still worth the price. Sometimes the same item is cheaper in the shops.
4. Mark promotional emails as spam
This may sound strange but bear with me as I explain this tip. Receiving daily emails with great promotions and sales like “30% of on all your favourites” is only going to help you out of the frying pan into the fire. This tip links with number two in the sense that you’ll end up buying items just because it is on sale and not because you necessarily need it. No matter how strong your will is, you will cave after the fifth special promotion email – trust me!
5. Log out!
You must make it as difficult as possible for yourself to go online to the shopping websites or apps. Otherwise, impulsive buys are in your near future. For security reasons it is obvious that you don’t want to safe your credit card details online, but it is also wise for that one in the morning shopping sprees. The more effort it takes, like entering your card details, the less likely you are to go through with the transaction, and thus saving money.
These are only a few tips I wish I knew earlier in my online shopping life. Maybe I could’ve afforded a beach holiday by now… Online shopping is convenient, has a great variety and will only go from strength to strength. So, make sure you’re smart about it.
